About Our Speaker:
Lakeisha C. Brown was born in Monterey, California and lived in various states. She grew up and graduated from a very small town in Oxford, Pennsylvania. She has a Bachelor Degree in Art/Elementary/Special Education from Albright College. While at Albright she was a standout Track and Field athlete in which she still holds four Indoor Track and Field records. She was an Ambassador and the first African American female to be crowned Homecoming Queen. She also made history by being the first African American female to be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for Track and Field.
She has dedicated her life as a life-long educator and advocate for HIV/AIDS in the community. She has lived in Durban, South Africa teaching and designing HIV/AIDS prevention programs. Living in a third world country has molded her beliefs in equity, celebrating diversity, and developing partnerships within the community. Lakeisha believes that we can utilize education to influence the new generation. During her 17 year career as an educator, Lakeisha has taught in several states and countries. She has taught English as a second language internationally in China, Malaysia, and South Korea. She currently teaches kindergarten for District of Columbia Public Schools in Washington D.C. Lakeisha was awarded the 2019 District of Columbia Teacher of the Year and named as a finalist for the 2020 Washington Post Teacher of the Year. She was also Miss DC for America 2020 and represented the nations capital at the National competition in Las Vegas, Nevada.
When Lakeisha is not volunteering in the community or teaching in the classroom she is playing with her five year old son Noah. He is her inspiration, her source of strength. She wants to show Noah and every child that you can do anything if you work hard, stay humble, and believe!
